Week of Feb. 12th, 2018

Students will complete a 5 paragraph rough draft and final draft narrative essay from the point of view of an Indian father on the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889.

Students will also review the results of their December MNPS Benchmark Writing test. Their results will also go home and require parents to review, sign and return to class.

Students will also be quizzed over building complex and compound sentences (from our week of NO RED INK activities.)

Please encourage your student to complete their daily Edmodo posted activities Monday through Thursday of each week. Stories about Black History month will also be posted.

Weeks of Jan 3rd, 8th, 15th

Students will be completing our recent unit on the Oklahoma Land Rush and be tested with various writing and multiple choice question quizzes. Daily activities will be posted on Edmodo each Monday through Thursday.

Students are learning new and independent ways to analyze and process text articles. This is a slight instructional change from my previous teacher led strategies. At the start of this next semester, the focus is more on the students to take responsibility for their learning. I will continue to guide and model students through these provided activities in order to learn how to take more ownership of their learning process. With the national emphasis on states testing in our schools, we may be overly providing students with reading activities in order to successfully answer questions, rather than encourage students to read for enjoyment, stimulate their natural curiosity and love for reading/writing.

Please see that your student is keeping up with their Edmodo homework assignments.

Students will be learning various test-taking lessons designed to practice thinking and writing critically each week.

Students will soon begin reading our next novel, Thinking Differently, Steve Jobs, in class, with daily follow-up activities posted on Edmodo each Monday through Thursday.
