Weeks of August 19th & August 26th


ELA MAP on-line assessments will be administered August 19th & 20th in ELA classes. Encourage your student to do their very best.

Edmodo: still working on the this platform where I will post daily homework assignments. There are no homework assignments until I can complete the sign up process for all students.

Speaking and Listening

Written Expression and Process

Students will be reviewing last week's class writing assessment on prior objectives and lessons of Active Listening and Critical questions(open vs closed) as we prepare for collaborative discussions. Students will follow a peer critique model where effective and encouraging feedback is shared. Additionally, students will be given the opportunity to re-take the assignment, empowered by peer feedback.

Reading Informational Text

Students will complete our class objectives of analyzing informational text that we began today. Students are using multiple texts, including a travel brochure on Nashville from the TN Dept. of Tourism. Additional lesson objectives are: contrasting fictional and non-fictional text, determining Author's Purpose, identifying key details, and quoting accurately from a text.

Students will be assessed for their understanding of the objectives by writing explanations of various concepts and completing a TN READY formatted quiz.

August 26th

Reading Literature Text

Students will focus on reading and analyzing literature from our scope and sequence materials. Raymond's Run.

Students will analyze the essential questions of "Why do people make certain choices? What can we learn about individuals and groups based on the choices they make? How do influences in your life change your perspective?" Lesson objectives are: contrasting fictional and non-fictional text, determining Author's Purpose, identifying key details and evidence, and quoting accurately from a text.

Week of August 12th, 2019

Students will be reviewing the results of last week's comprehension, vocabulary, and writing practice assessments.

Additionally, students will be learning more class procedures in the areas of improving speaking and listening, developing critical questioning techniques, and daily journaling.

No practice assignments this week until our Edmodo Web program is activated.
