Week of Feb. 1st

 Poetry Unit

Students will practice the use of figurative writing techniques to create their own original free verse poem this week.

*3rd Quarter will be focused on reading and analyzing fictional texts, and test taking strategies. We will continue with our summary writing and Opinion Essay writing. Students will be provided digital text copies of materials, teacher created powerpoints to guide instruction, discussions in class, and various assessment opportunities.   

Students will focus and learn:

  • How to read, analyze, and write a summary and an opinion essay following a TN READY Writing type specifically designed prompts. 
  • Through step by step instructions through TEAMS ELA meetings, and shared instructional materials in Schoology ELA course folders.
  • Through teacher modeled expectations and provided scaffolded activities to break down the task of writing.
Always ask your student to show you rather than tell you.....their grades to find their schoology assignments and activities.
Each week......students will complete:
  • A formative assignment from the ELA lesson
  • A summative ELA assignment from the ELA lesson
  • NO RED INK...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
  • FVL Curriculum...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
Grades are entered by the weekend. Missing assignments are labeled with an orange wheel and a ZERO. These assignments can still be completed for full credit.

Week of January 25th

Week of January 19th

MAP Testing will be administered this week. Students will first report to their morning SEL class in order to get needed information. MATH MAP will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday....ELA MAP on Thursday and Friday from 8:30AM-10:30AM. 

Following MAP testing, students will then attend one course class from 10:30AM-11:15AM each day:

Tuesday 3rd Period Class..

Wed. 4th Period Class..

Thursday 5th Period Class..

Friday 6th Period Class...

Helpful Tips for students:

  • Your goal is to do your best.....not to finish quickly. MAP testing is not a race.
  • Read.
  • Think.
  • Read each question twice before answering.
  • Use Process of Elimination to choose the correct answers. Identify the wrong answers first and eliminate them as choices.

Weeks of January 11th and 19th

 

Virtual MAP Testing next week. This week:

Analyzing a fictional text and accompanying TN READY type questions.

3rd Quarter will be focused on reading and analyzing fictional texts, and test taking strategies. We will continue with our summary writing and Opinion Essay writing. Students will be provided digital text copies of materials, teacher created powerpoints to guide instruction, discussions in class, and various assessment opportunities.   Students will also be tested for reading fluency of a text via a private secure recording for teacher analysis.

Students will focus and learn:

  • How to read, analyze, and write a summary and an opinion essay following a TN READY Writing type specifically designed prompts. 
  • Through step by step instructions through TEAMS ELA meetings, and shared instructional materials in Schoology ELA course folders.
