Poetry Unit
Students will analyze a poem and learn about the use of figurative writing techniques to create their own original free verse poem.
3rd Quarter will be focused on reading and analyzing fictional texts, and test taking strategies. We will continue with our summary writing and Opinion Essay writing. Students will be provided digital text copies of materials, teacher created powerpoints to guide instruction, discussions in class, and various assessment opportunities.
Students will focus and learn:
- How to read, analyze, and write a summary and an opinion essay following a TN READY Writing type specifically designed prompts.
- Through step by step instructions through TEAMS ELA meetings, and shared instructional materials in Schoology ELA course folders.
- Through teacher modeled expectations and provided scaffolded activities to break down the task of writing.
Always ask your student to show you rather than tell you.....their grades to find their schoology assignments and activities.
Each week......students will complete:
- A formative assignment from the ELA lesson
- A summative ELA assignment from the ELA lesson
- NO RED INK...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
- FVL Curriculum...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
Grades are entered by the weekend. Missing assignments are labeled with an orange wheel and a ZERO. These assignments can still be completed for full credit.
