Weeks of February 3rd & February 10th

MAP TESTING ELA-MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Top Ten Test Taking Strategies:

1. Your name is on this test. This test is about you.
2. Take your time. No points for being the first one done. The MAP test will shut down when it recognizes a student is going too quickly.
3. Read the passages. Think about the 5 magic words in your head as you read.
4. Read each question twice before attempting to answer it.
5. P.O.E. Process of Elimination. Eliminate the wrong answers first.
6. Think about the question you are being asked. Go back in the passage and make sure. Look for evidence.
7. Educated Guess. Think if you feel you have to guess. Put some thought into it.
8. This test will place you in certain group levels.
9. MAP scores are used for your benefit.
10. Repeat number 1.

Self Reflection:

Students will continue our strategy each week to self evaluate their performance by writing three things they did well and three things they need to improve.

Reading Informational Text

"When you can do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." George Washington Carver

Students will complete reading the GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER, a biography in class. The next two weeks will cover his accomplishments as a professor/researcher at Tuskeegee University in Alabama and his major contributions to the world. Selected chapter excerpts will be used to implement imspiring STEAM lessons with multiple subjects and teachers over the next two weeks. Our teachers and myself are very excited about this collaborative STEAM lesson in Social Studies, Math, and Science.

Written Expression and Process

Students will be assessed on t
he George Washington Carver Unit with daily specific writing prompts, and also by planning and writing an informational essay.

Students will also complete a practice writing assessment on Persuasive Writing. Students read and analyzed their pro and con positions on the securing and developing Native Indian Western Territories of the USA for settlement. After re-teaching the pre-write, a large majority of students succeeded.

Grammar and Conventions

Students will be tested on articles and complex sentences on NO RED INK...date to be determined.

Homework

EDMODO announced assignments each Monday through Thursday. EDMODO will be the place to find out what is assigned that particular day. We also use the on line program, NO RED INK...for practicing Grammar and Vocabulary.
