Week of March 8th

Students will begin reading, We Are The Ships, this week.

This book is about the Negro baseball league and will require assigned independent reading and follow up questions post instruction class time. During class time, students will also be engaged in class discussions, reflective journal writing, read alouds in whole groups and partners(breakout rooms), and TN READY multiple choice type questions.

Connecting the text:

Nashville had a team in the Negro baseball league as well.

Goal:

As always....the goal is for students to develop their higher level open rather than closed questions from curiosity and teacher modeling and activities...students will begin with 5 Magic Words and continue with engagement with text.

A 5th grade common assessment(not on this novel) has been created by Mrs. Bell and will be administered on Wed....during class.

*Always ask your student to show you rather than tell you.....their grades to find their schoology assignments and activities.

Each week......students will complete:
  • A formative assignment from the ELA lesson
  • A summative ELA assignment from the ELA lesson
  • NO RED INK...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
  • TN READY Practice or FVL Curriculum...one practice activity per week. Homework grade.
Grades are entered by the weekend. Missing assignments are labeled with an orange wheel and a ZERO. These assignments can still be completed for full credit.
