Students will continue our strategy each week to self evaluate their performance by writing three things they did well and three things they need to improve.
Reading Informational Text
Students will begin our 2nd QRT Scope and Sequence Informational Text reading materials. This consists of inspirational readings of four historic figures who overcame immense challenges with dignity and courage. Harriet Tubman is the first reading. We will also be selectively reading a biography on George Washington Carver and culminate with a collaborative STEAM class activity at the end of the quarter.
Students will analyze the essential questions of "Why do people make certain choices? What can we learn about individuals and groups based on the choices they make? How do influences in your life change your perspective?" Lesson objectives are: determing narrative voice, comparing and contrasting, determining author's purpose, identifying key details and evidence, and quoting accurately from a text.
Written Expression and Process
Students will be assessed for their understanding of the objectives by writing explanations of various concepts and completing a TN READY multiple choice formatted quiz. INFORMATIVE WRITING.
Students will also be practicing narrative writing by creating extensions to stories we are reading and discussing in class.
Grammar and Conventions
Students will focus on the writer's style by studying Grammar FRAGMENTS AND COMMAS on NO RED INK.
Homework
EDMODO each Monday through Thursday. EDMODO will be the place to find out what is assigned that particular day. We also use the on line program, NO RED INK...for practicing Grammar and Vocabulary.
